Gulf of Guinea and East Africa – Changes to Risk Areas

With effect from 1st November 2020, the IBF and ITF Lists of Risk Areas will be amended to reflect the development of the piracy situation in West and East African waters, specifically with regard to the intensity and location of attacks and kidnappings.

The new IBF (Annex 1) and ITF (Annex 2) Lists of areas are attached for your information. Together with enhancements to a few charts, the changes will in particular include:

Gulf of Guinea – Designation 5 with Chart 5Where, additionally to the existing High Risk Area in the territorial waters of Nigeria and Benin, a new Extended Risk Zone has been designated to cover a substantially larger area in the Gulf between Liberia and Angola

Indian Ocean – Designation 2 with Chart 2bIncluding the amended coordinates for the High Risk Area off Somali east coast – 12 n.m. and the respective enlargement of the Extended Risk Zone.

Please note that the amendments in the attached lists will take effect from 0001Z on 1st November 2020until which time the current Lists of Risk Areas will apply.
